Maria Ybanes

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Maria Ybanes, who left us on April 28, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on July 10, 1949, in Pharr, Texas, Maria dedicated her life to family, faith, and service.

Maria made Weston, OH her home, where she raised her family with love and devotion. She is survived by her four wonderful children: Cristina Ybanes (LaClede Reid), Rita VanZant, Raymundo Ybanes Jr. (Michelle) and Lisa Ybanes. Her legacy also lives on through her eleven cherished grandchildren and one great granddaughter who filled her life with joy.

After 32 years, Maria retired from Bowling Green State University where she worked in the custodial department and was known for her hard work and kindness. Outside of work, she was devoted to her Catholic faith and prayed the Rosary and Divine Mercy daily. She was also deeply involved in her community and her church. As a Eucharistic Minister at St. Aloysius, she brought comfort to many by distributing communion at nursing homes and visiting parishioners who couldn’t make it to Mass. Maria also loved making food for the funeral lunches at church and participated in church retreats and mission trips to Mexico to help the less fortunate.

To know Maria was to know her cooking, especially her Mexican rice. Spending time with her family at Christmas for their annual tamale making day tradition was always a highlight of the year. She also enjoyed attending bailes with her late husband and hosting their infamous summer cookouts. Volleyball anyone??

Visitation for Maria will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 4:00 until the time of a Rosary service at 7:00 pm at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green.  Her funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 150 S Enterprise Street.  Interment will immediately follow at St. Louis Cemetery, Custar, OH.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Raymundo G. Ybanes Sr.; her parents, Jose and Maria Trevino as well as six brothers and one sister.

Maria will be deeply missed but will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
