Mary Ellen Pratt

Mary Ellen Pratt, 84, of Perrysburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 11, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving husband, Doug. Mary was born August 30, 1938 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Lewis and Gladys (Huber) Kramer. She graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1956 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 1959. Mary Ellen married Douglas Pratt on March 29, 1958 in Bowling Green, Ohio.

She was a schoolteacher for seven years for Anthony Wayne Local Schools and was a substitute teacher for over twenty years, retiring in 1988. Mary Ellen was a charter member of the United Women Educators and a 50 year member of the American Association of University Women. She was member of The Bowling Green and Toledo Branch AAUW, a life member of the Wood County Historical Society, the Perrysburg Area Historical Museum, and the Perrysburg Presbyterian Church.

Mary Ellen and Doug enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, most recently on numerous trips to Alaska. She was an avid reader in addition to the daily digestion of several newspapers in their entirety. As part of a scholarship fundraiser by AAUW, she was a popular program speaker depicting the life and character of Amelia Earhart while dressed authentically as the famous adventurer. This impersonation was highly appropriate since Mary Ellen had once acquired her own pilot’s license.

Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, Doug; brother, Alan (Ruth Ann) Kramer; niece, Anne (Hans) Huth and their children, Noah and Joey and nephew, Michael (Heather) Kramer and their children, Elena and Corinna. She was preceded in death by her parents.
