Michael Jay Billmaier, 76, of Wayne, Ohio, passed away May 23, 2024. He was born October 5, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Paul and Harriet (Goodson) Billmaier. He married Barbara Gross on September 20, 1969 and she survives.
Michael was a 1965 graduate of Rogers High School. Michael served in the United States Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He worked as the Chief Building Official for Wood County. As a professional building official, he was committed to public service and served on local, state and national code committees. He voiced strong advocacy for safe yet simplified code enforcement. During his tenure he worked locally to help design and build the original Elmwood Athletic Center, Church of the Good Shepherd, Wayne and other community built structures. Following his retirement, he shared his insights through volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He was a skilled and accomplished woodworker displaying locally and at the Toledo Museum of Art community gallery. He was a member of a local model club and enjoyed model trains. Michael felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in Honor Flight. He & Barbara enjoyed their 50th anniversary with a trip to Alaska. And whenever possible he appreciated visiting the simple, reflective life in Holmes County Ohio.
Along with his wife of nearly 55 years, Barbara, Michael is survived by his sons Jacob P. Billmaier of New Philadelphia, Ohio and Noah M. (Ashley) Billmaier of Lebanon, Ohio, grandson Mason and brother Gary L. Billmaier, Perrysburg.
Services for Michael will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral home in Bowling Green.
