Moises Avila Hurtado

Moises Avila Hurtado, age 81, of Bowling Green, and formerly of Pemberville, Ohio passed away peacefully at Wood County Hospital, under Bridge Hospice Care Friday, January 10, 2025.

He was born May 18, 1943 in Pinal de Amoles, Queretaro, Mexico, to Jesus Avila and Sotera Hurtado.

Moises worked various agricultural and factory jobs out West and in Fostoria, OH, eventually retiring from Larry Moore Industries in Pemberville.

Moises is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Mexico, Jesus Avila of Arizona, Iris Avila of Florida, stepsons & stepdaughters: Encarnacion and Tammy Enriquez of Pemberville, Manuel Enriquez of Bowling Green, Esther Spahn of Luckey, Fred and Stacy Enriquez of Savannah, GA, Jesse and Maureen Enriquez of St, Mary’s, GA, Gloria Planza of Bowling Green, Juan Enriquez of Bowling Green, Raymond and Anita Enriquez of Bowling Green, Linda and Kirk Rublaitus of Luckey, and his loving 14 step grandchildren; 24 step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-granddaughter who all reside in Northwest Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Sotera, his wife Juanita Enriquez Avila, stepdaughter; Mary Taylor, brothers: Anselmo, Joel and Elias.

He was married to Juanita Hernandez Enriquez, and they resided for 38 years in Pemberville, OH. Throughout their marriage they so enjoyed the many gatherings with family and friends who happened to stop by for some outdoor grilling, bird watching along the Portage River, listening to Tejano music in the back ground, watching their grandchildren playing outdoors and of course listening to all the conversations had by all. The house was always full of laughter, chatter, joking around and of course enjoying some good home cooked meals was a special treat.

Moises also enjoyed watching his western cowboy movies, gardening, grilling outdoors, cooking just in general, watching OSU football, and boxing matches with his stepsons and grandsons. He surprised the family when he brought out his violin and started playing a few songs!!

After developing some health issues and the passing of his wife, Juanita in 2021, he chose to take residence at Wood Haven Nursing Home in Bowling Green. He developed many friendships with the residents and staff members, how they loved him so… but then again, Moises was just that type of person: kind, gentle, quiet, soft spoken, caring, compassionate, hardworking and was so loved by those who had the privilege of meeting him in person.

There are no public services per Moises’ request. However, Moises will be laid to rest next to his wife Juanita at a family committal service in Pemberville Cemetery, Pemberville, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial take the form of contributions to Wood Haven Care Center 1965 E. Gypsy Lane Road Bowling Green, OH 43402 or Bridge Hospice. Those wishing to express a word of encouragement or share a memory or photo may do so at www.marshfuneralhomes.com.
