Nina Jean Ogden passed away peacefully at The Willows in Bowling Green, Ohio, on February 7, 2025, at the age of 79, following a courageous six-month battle with metastatic breast cancer. Nina was born on November 13, 1945, in Miamisburg, Ohio, to Johnathon Richard Uhrich and Mildred Lambert Uhrich. She graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1963 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1967 and her Master’s degree in 1970 from Bowling Green State University. She married Richard R. Ogden on July 24, 1971, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1993.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Joe Hastings); sister, Nancy Greggorson; sisters-in-law, Joyce A. Johnson and Judith K. Ogden; brother-in-law, W. Michael Ogden; and several nieces and nephews.
Nina was a teacher for 40 years, devoting 37 of those years to Otsego Schools. Over the years, she taught 5th and 6th grades and was known for making math and science fun. Students were always excited to have “Mrs. Ogden” as their teacher. Nina respected, loved, and made a positive impact on the lives of so many students and colleagues.
After retiring from teaching, Nina started her own craft business, “Around the Block” Design. She created beautiful decorative glass blocks and holiday yard signs, selling them at local craft shows. One of Nina’s greatest joys was her love of cooking. She enjoyed preparing delicious Sunday night meals and beautifully frosted holiday cookies for her neighbors. Nina loved shopping, gardening, and spending time with her dogs.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff—Todd, Jody, Alisha, and Coco—at The Willows and the Bridge Home Hospice nurses—Allie and Olivia—for all the compassionate care provided to Nina during her illness. Thank you to our special friends, Brenda Pike and Emmily Hunter, for all of the love and support. A special thank you to Joe Hastings for your love, kindness, and the delicious treats you brought to Nina every week. She was so blessed and grateful to have each of you in her life.
Per her request, no services will be held for Nina.
Those wishing to donate may do so in Nina’s honor to The Wood County Dog Shelter or The Wood County Humane Society.
