‘No Kings’ protest planned in BG in response to Trump’s military parade on June 14

The United States was founded in opposition to monarchy. Our Constitution is built on the idea of government by the people, not rule by a single man. On Saturday, June 14, Donald Trump will stage a military parade that is not about honoring our troops, but about glorifying himself.

The Wood County Democratic Party is organizing the No Kings protest at 11 a.m. in Bowling Green to stand against this authoritarian display. We invite everyone who believes in democracy and accountability to join us.

We want to be clear. We support our military. We honor the service and sacrifice of every member of our armed forces. What we reject is the use of our troops as political props in a spectacle designed to elevate one man above the law. Our military serves the Constitution, not any one individual.

At the same time, the Trump administration has actively undermined those who serve. It has pushed for cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs, and repeatedly targeted Medicare and Medicaid, programs that millions of Americans, including veterans, rely on. There have also been two separate scandals involving the improper sharing of classified information through Signal, raising serious national security concerns. Most recently, Trump reportedly accepted gifts from Qatar, raising new questions about foreign influence and self-dealing.

This parade is not patriotic. It is a symbol of power and control. It is not about America. It is about one man who wants to be treated like a king.

On June 14, we say clearly and proudly: there are no kings in America. Join us in Bowling Green to defend the values our democracy was built on. Bring your friends, your voice, and your commitment to freedom.

In solidarity,

Zach Schmidt
