Wood County is now up to 11,367 confirmed and probable cases and 191 deaths from COVID-19 since March, according to the Monday, Feb. 22, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 76 new cases and one more death reported since Thursday, Feb. 18.
The number of doses of the COVID vaccine being given in Wood County as of today is 17,904 – which is 13.69% of the county’s population.
The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 81, which is four more than on Thursday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
Of the total 191 deaths in Wood County, one was in her 20s, one was in his 30s, three were in their 40s, six were in their 50s, 17 were in their 60s, 44 in their 70s, 73 in their 80s, and 45 in their 90s, and one in her 100s.
A total of 558 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with three more being hospitalized since Thursday.
Of the total 11,367 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 5,939 were female, and 5,428 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 12 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg and Bowling Green ZIP code areas had the most last week, with each having between 26-30 active cases. Northwood followed with 6-10 cases.
Areas with 1-5 cases each included Bradner, Fostoria, Jerry City, Millbury, Pemberville, Rossford, Rudolph, Walbridge and Wayne.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Feb. 8) in the county included 20 students and 9 staff:
- Bowling Green City Schools: 5 students, 5 staff.
- Eastwood: 3 students, 0 staff.
- Elmwood: 0 students, 1 staff.
- Lake: 2 students, 0 staff.
- Otsego: 0 students, 1 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 2 students, 0 staff.
- Perrysburg: 8 students, 1 staff.
- Rossford: 0 student, 1 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 864 have been in long-term care facilities – 449 were residents and 415 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday – but there were no new cases to report today.

- St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg: 2 residents, 5 staff.
- Grand Rapids Care Center: 12 residents, 13 staff.

- Brookdale Bowling Green: 20 residents, 17 staff.
- Wood Lane Residential Werner House: 4 residents, 3 staff.
