From PERRYSBURG ROTARY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
The Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation has provided the Country Garden Club with a $3,000 grant in support of the Perrysburg “Scraps to Soil” composting program. The new program is a partnership between the City of Perrysburg, Country Garden Club, and Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful.
Earlier in 2025, the Country Garden Club launched the “Scraps to Soil” two-year food-waste composting drop-off pilot program designed to divert organic material from landfills, reduce methane emissions, and improve soil health. Funding from the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation will support targeted marketing and educational efforts, including stickers, signage, brochures, and compostable bags to encourage community participation and long-term success.
“In this country, more food reaches landfills and combustion facilities through our everyday trash than any other single material,” said Lauren Rush, natural resources manager for the City of Perrysburg. “We want to make it easier for residents to get involved with composting by teaming with the Country Garden Club to launch a residential composting program.”
“Through our grant contribution to the Country Garden Club, the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation continues its mission to enhance the quality of life in greater Perrysburg and northern Wood County by supporting projects that promote sustainability, education, and community well-being,” said Jack Sculfort, executive director of the Perrysburg Rotary Community Foundation.
