Portage man arrested for burglary and criminal damaging of apartment in BG

Bowling Green Police arrested a Portage man for burglary and criminal damaging after he reportedly broke down the door to an apartment on Friday (12/19).

Officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Ada Avenue, around 6:30 p.m., when a neighbor reported hearing a man breaking the door.

When police arrived, no one was inside the apartment, but the unit appeared to have a great deal of damage – with computer monitors broken in the office space, a pool table flipped upside down, a TV in the bedroom pulled down onto the bed, trash thrown throughout, the oven turned on, and the door frame broken.

The resident of the apartment was located at his workplace. He reportedly recognized the man caught in camera footage, hitting his door with a shovel, but said he had no idea why the man would do that.

A relative of the man told police that the suspect has a traumatic brain injury from a car crash.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody in Portage, and took him to Wood County Jail.
