Rebecca “June” (Austin) Hofner, 82, of Tontogany, Ohio, passed away on Sunday January 19, 2025, at Wood Haven Nursing Home. She was born on June 18, 1942, in Bowling Green, Ohio. She was adopted by Robert and Ruby Austin. She married Ray Hofner on October 14, 1961 and he survives in Tontogany, Ohio.
June graduated from Otsego high school in 1960. She became a member of Tontogany Calvary church on January 23, 1955, making her a member of 70 years. She was baptized on April 25, 1943. She played the piano and the organ for over 44 years while attending church. June worked for Northern Ohio phone company in 1960 as a phone operator. She visited phone buildings until 1973. In 1973 she became a clerk at the Tontogany postal office until becoming the postmaster in 1974. She retired from the post office in 2000 once they moved to their new location.
Ray and June met in 1957 while roller skating at Vollmar park, which later became the Hofner family’s when they bought it in 1963. June enjoyed watching QVC, collecting precious moments, crossword puzzles, baking and traveling with Ray and her family. She went on cruises, traveled to Alaska by truck and camper. Over the years her and Ray had visited numerous states and countries.
Along with her loving husband Ray, June is survived by her children Cindy (Jeff) Reyome, Robert (Melissa) Hofner, grandchildren Samantha (Tanner) Hofner, Makayla Hofner, Jillian (Logan) Kitchen, Courtney Reyome and 3 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her sisters Beverly Rahmn, Evelyn Holland, Helen Barton, Mary Harris and Rosie Gregory.
A visitation will be held on Thursday January 23, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home 18620 Washington St. Tontogany, Ohio. A funeral service will be held on Friday January 24, 2025, 11:00a.m. at Tontogany Calvary Church located at 18296 Broad St. Tontogany, Ohio. An additional visitation period will be held Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Mike Kelley will officiate. Interment will follow at Tontogany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be given to Tontogany Calvary Church Tontogany, Ohio.
