Northwest Ohio depends on the reliable rural delivery that USPS provides. Seniors and Veterans use USPS to receive life-saving medication. The Post Office provides assurances and stability to small businesses who need online retail. Finally, USPS is the only agency to guarantee safe and accessible voting regardless of how the pandemic progresses.
For weeks we have been hearing Bob Latta call the USPS essential and claim that he will protect it. Our Congressman “nobly” wrote an open letter to urge the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to work hard for Ohio. Seven of Bob’s Republican colleagues signed his letter.
On Friday, the fate of USPS became actionable. The Delivering for America Act made it to the Congressional floor and Bob Latta finally had the opportunity to turn words into action by funding the Post Office and protecting and expanding mailing routes in Northwest Ohio. This legislation also prevented operational changes until after the election to protect the integrity of our Democracy.
While four Ohio Republicans stuck to the promises made in their open letter, Bob Latta voted no.
After weeks of surveys, letters, and interviews, Latta was given the opportunity for action. He could have voted to save the Post Office and secure the amenities it provides to his district, but he refused. This is the true Bob Latta. Latta is more concerned with attending county fairs and maintaining a low profile than passing legislation that would actually help his constituents. He has a pattern of voting down the party line at the expense of Northwest Ohio. He voted no on the HEROES Act, the Child Care is Essential Act, Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act of 2020, and now the Delivering for America Act.
Bob Latta is not in Washington to fight for his constituents, much less represent them. Latta’s actions speak louder than his open letters. It’s time we vote out two-faced politicians.
