Screening of Oscar-winning ‘No Other Land’ set for Sunday at Maumee Indoor Theater

Sunday, May 25, presents a rare opportunity to catch a theatrical screening of “No Other Land,” winner of the 2024 Academy Award for Best Documentary. The screening will be held at the Maumee Indoor Theater at 4 p.m., organized by the Media Decompression Collective (MDC).

“No Other Land” depicts the forced displacement of a Palestinian community from their homes in Masafer Yatta, a region in the occupied West Bank. The film was produced by a collaboration between Palestinians and Israelis working together to highlight their vastly different living conditions.

“This is an opportunity to understand what is happening all over Palestine – Masafer Yatta is a microcosm of what has been happening since 1948,” said Amjad Doumani, founder of MDC. He is referring to the Nakba, the historical and, as evidenced by “No Other Land,” ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

There haven’t been many chances to see “No Other Land” in a U.S. cinema, and Sunday will be its premiere for Northwest Ohio. Doumani hopes people will show up to take advantage of this chance to become more educated on an issue relevant to many Americans.

The suggested donation for tickets is $10, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. A panel discussion and Q&A will follow the screening.
