Senior art enthusiasts explore treasures at the Toledo Museum of Art

From WOOD COUNTY COMMITTEE ON AGING

On Monday, Sept. 22, Sharon Hanna, a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) and an instructor at the Wood County Committee on Aging, led a group of senior art enthusiasts on an enlightening tour of the museum. The trip was a culmination of Hanna’s “Art Tells Stories” course, which has grown in popularity among older adults.

During the tour, participants experienced an in-depth exploration of the museum’s collection, including both well-known pieces and lesser-known gems. Hanna shared anecdotes and historical context for each artwork, further deepening the understanding of her students.

“I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to guide my students through the Toledo Museum of Art and share my love for the incredible works housed within its walls,” said Hanna. “My goal is to make art accessible and enjoyable for everyone, and I believe that connecting people with art helps to enrich their lives.”

Hanna is gearing up for her third “Art Tells Stories” session, set to begin in October. With new art pieces being added to the museum’s collection, Hanna is excited to share fresh stories and perspectives with her students, continuing to help nurture their appreciation for the arts.
