The Toledo Symphony Orchestra’s 81st season closes with a show styled after the British Proms, Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m. in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
This one-night-only concert shines the spotlight on TSO musicians and colorful orchestral favorites. From the thrilling rush of Mikhail Glinka’s “Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla” and the elegance of Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane for a dead Princess” to the playful dialogue of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Konzertstück for two clarinets and orchestra,” this concert combines celebratory miniatures into a beautiful symphonic mosaic.
Conducted by Alain Trudel, featured performers will be Georg Klaas and Jocelyn Langworthy, clarinets, Jack Henning, bass, and Zachary Thomas, trumpet.
Also on the program will be Andrés Martín’s D-flat Concerto, Jean Baptiste Arban’s “The Carnival of Venice” as arranged by Herbert Clarke, Morton Gould’s “American Symphonette No. 2,” and Alexander Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances from ‘Prince Igor.’”
