The Ohio Department of Transportation has awarded $500,000 to a project in Bowling Green.

This project entails the detailed design and right of way acquisition for the realignment of Bishop Road with Nims Road at Ohio 25, where Abbott Labs has plans to construct a $500 million manufacturing facility.

Bowling Green Economic Development Director Kati Thompson said the state monies will help fund a study of the location to come up with the appropriate road design.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation Director Pamela Boratyn announced Wednesday that the Transportation Improvement District (TID) Program would award $8.9 million to support 26 transportation projects in 19 counties.

The selected projects support the program’s goals of job creation and retention, economic development, intergovernmental collaboration, and public-private investment.

The roadwork projects will provide access to developable land, create easier access to existing businesses, and alleviate traffic congestion around commercial areas. The projects are expected to support more than 19,400 jobs and more than $3 billion in private sector capital investments.

“By investing in transportation infrastructure that aligns with local and regional priorities, we’re helping to create jobs, strengthen communities, and attract private investment,” DeWine said. “These funds go directly to projects that position Ohio for success now and well into the future.”

The Transportation Improvement District Program was established to promote collaboration between local governments and private industry and help accelerate transportation projects that support economic development. Funding through the program can be used for a range of activities, including preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition, and construction.
