In a tradition dating back decades, Bowling Green State University celebrated the students who bring beloved mascots Freddie and Frieda Falcon to life during an identity reveal at the Feb. 22 women’s basketball game against Toledo.

Every year, the BGSU students who portray the top-ranked brother-sister duoconceal their identities from classmates and friends until the much-anticipated reveal near the end of basketball season. The tradition has long been a part of BGSU history, beginning in 1950 when Freddie Falcon debuted during a home basketball game against Ohio University. Frieda joined Freddie in 1966 as Mrs. Freddie Falcon and was then reintroduced in 1980 as Freddie’s little sister and sidekick.

As part of this year’s reveal, six students were honored for their commitment to spreading school spirit at athletic, campus and community events and for serving as ambassadors to BGSU, the No. 1 public university in Ohio for student experience.
