Suzie the shepherd mix at Wood County Dog Shelter has lots of energy and lots of love to share

Meet Suzie, an energetic 1-year-old shepherd mix who came to the Wood County Dog Shelter as a stray. She has made friends with everyone she’s met, and has done well with the other dogs at the shelter, according to Chief Dog Warden Jodi Harding.

“She is going to need an active home to get her puppy energy out,” Harding said. “She walks great on a leash, and loves to run in the dog park.”

Suzie has had her da2pp and Bordetella vaccines, but is on the waitlist for her spay and rabies/heartworm test. If she were to be adopted before the shelter could get her in, she will come with the $75 vet voucher to go towards her spay.

The adoption fee for all shelter dogs is $89, which includes a $14 Wood County dog license, and $75 vet voucher toward spay/neuter and vaccines if needed.

The hours for the shelter are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The shelter is closed on Sundays. The Wood County Dog Shelter is located at 1912 E. Gypsy Lane Road, Bowling Green, phone 419-354-9242.

The dog shelter is also reminding people that 2025 dog licenses went on sale on Dec. 1.  Prices for Wood County licenses are $14 until Jan. 31, and then they will go up to $28.  The shelter staff would like to remind everybody that it is the law to get your dog licensed, and the best way to get your dog home if your dog is missing.  There will be some satellite locations throughout Wood County for licenses (listed below.) Residents can also go online at https://www.doglicenses.us/OH/Wood/ or to the dog shelter to purchase their licenses.
