The Cocoon continuing to serve survivors of domestic & sexual violence

From THE COCOON

The Cocoon, Wood County’s only domestic and sexual violence agency, remains committed to serving survivors throughout the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cocoon’s 24/7 crisis line remains available by calling 419-373-1730 and selecting option #2. Survivors needing emergency safe shelter or other services should call this number to be immediately connected to an advocate.

As of this time, domestic and sexual violence advocates remain available to attend scheduled and emergency legal and medical support appointments as well as provide crisis support services. Services will remain available pending notification of procedural changes or closings of courthouses and medical facilities.

The following precautions are immediately being taken to ensure the health and safety of those we serve as well as our staff and volunteers. They include but are not limited to:
• Increased frequency of cleaning and sanitizing our facilities to decrease the likelihood of a Coronavirus related incident.
• The administration office will be closed to visitors as of Tuesday, March 17, until further notice. Should anyone wish to drop off donations or need to visit for any reason, call our office at 419-373-1730, ext. 1002 to make alternate arrangements.
• Cancellation of events until further notice, including Unmasquerade, previously scheduled for Thursday, April 30 as well as the May 16 Community Awareness Event at Schedel Gardens
• Cancellation of non-essential meetings, both on and off-site
• Employees and volunteers exhibiting any signs of illness will be required to stay home.

Should anyone residing in emergency safe shelter exhibit signs of COVID-19, our staff will immediately consult with the Wood County Health Department and implement isolation procedures.

The Cocoon remains committed to providing any and all who suffer abuse with safety, healing and justice. We appreciate the continued support of the community during this global situation.
