The Cocoon recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with events and displays

Information about the Cocoon posted on downtown lampposts

The Cocoon, Wood County’s only comprehensive domestic and sexual violence advocacy center and emergency shelter, will be recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October with a myriad of interactive events and displays.

While the Cocoon supports survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and their children, all year long, October is a nationally recognized time to lift the voices of those experiencing violence, celebrate their successes in transitioning to lives free from abuse, and mourn those who have lost their lives.

Throughout October, the Cocoon Staff will adorn lampposts lining Main Street in Bowling Green with purple ribbons and information about Cocoon services and provide informational posters for local businesses to display to show their support.

In addition, the Wood County Clothesline Project will be displayed at the Bowling Green State University Student Union Oval from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, and the What Were You Wearing display, featuring outfits that mirror those worn by survivors at the time of their assault, will be displayed in the BGSU Student Union on Oct. 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. All of the above events are free and open to the public.

On Friday, Oct. 25, the Cocoon will host the Cocoon’s Dueling Pianos presented by Whitacre Logistics at Stone Ridge Golf Club, 1552 Muirfield Drive, Bowling Green, from 7 until 11 p.m. Tickets are required to be purchased in advance ($60 for individual tickets, non-reserved seats; $500 for a reserved table of eight.)

All funds raised directly support critical programs and services provided to more than 900 survivors and their families each year. For more information or to make a reservation call 419-373-1730, ext. 1002, or email r.guidera@thecocoon.org.
