Toledo man charged with harassment after allegedly spitting on BGPD officer

A Toledo man was charged with harassment after he reportedly spit on a BG Police officer at Wood County Hospital.

Police were called to the hospital Monday (April 21) around 4 p.m., for a reportedly combative man. John Self, 41, had been arrested for OVI by Rossford Police, who transported him to Wood County Jail. When told that Self had to be medically cleared before he could be admitted to the jail, Rossford Police took him to Wood County Hospital.

Bowling Green Police were then called because Self was reportedly agitated and yelling in the emergency department. After officers put Self in the back of a police cruiser, he reportedly began hitting his head on the metal bars covering the window, and began bleeding profusely. He also allegedly spit on an officer.

Self then had to be taken back in the hospital for his head wound. He was put in soft restraints and given medication to render him unconscious. He was left in the care of the hospital.
