The Toledo Rep will stage “West Side Story: School Edition” as it teen musical Thursday, July 11, through Sunday July 14 at the 10th Street Stage at 16 10th St., Toledo. Showtimes are Thursday-Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m
The show, which was originally conceived by Jerome Robbins with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, transports Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to the streets of New York City in the 1950s.Young lovers struggle to survive in a world of prejudice and violence between warring street gangs, the Sharks and the Jets.
Among the cast is Andelus Elwazani of Bowling Green is the lead role of Maria.
“West Side Story” has won numerous awards for both the stage version and 10 Oscars for the film version.
