The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will present “A Streetcar Named Desire” weekends in April 28 through May 7 on the 10th Street Stage. The curtain times are Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29 at 8 p.m., and Sunday April 30 at 2:30. The play resumes the following week at 8 pm on Thursday, May 4, Friday, May 5, and Saturday May 6 at 8 p.m. The final performance is Sunday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m.

After losing her Mississippi home to creditors, Blanche du Bois relocates to the New Orleans home of her younger sister and brother-in-law, Stella, and Stanley Kowalski. Undermined by romantic illusions, Blanche is unable to cope with life’s harsh realities. Though she finds a glimmer of hope while connecting with Stanley’s gentlemanly friend, Mitch, Blanche cannot face the truth of her own troubled past and ultimately descends into madness.

Often regarded as among the finest plays of the 20th century, Streetcar is considered by many to be Williams’ greatest work. The story famously recounts how the faded and promiscuous Blanche is pushed over the edge by Stanley, her sexy and brutal brother-in-law. Winner of the

1948 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the play launched the careers of Marlon Brando, Jessica Tandy, Kim Hunter, and Karl Malden, and solidified the position of Tennessee Williams as one of the most important young playwrights of his generation.

Blanche is played by Kate Abu-Absi. This completes the “Williams Trifecta” for Abu-Absi, having previously played Maggie in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” and Amanda in “The Glass Menagerie” in  the Rep’s most recent productions of those shows.

Garrett Monasmith plays Stanley; Marissa Rex is Stella and Ryan Albrecht is Mitch.

The cast also includes Natalie Bostelman, Mark Owen, Tony Comes, Matt Sherman, Jayden Tate, Scott Dibling, and Morgana Swift.

Jeffrey Albright is the director, having played “Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” and directing “The Glass Menagerie” at The Rep.

Luke D. Rosen, a Rep Board member and Director of Choral Music at the Evergreen Local School District has written an original score for the show that is now available for pre-order on Apple Music and will be released the day the show opens (April 28).
