On Friday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., the City of Bowling Green Human Relations Commission will host the 36th annual tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will be held at the Wood County District Public Library located at 251 N. Main St. in Bowling Green.

During this event, the Drum Major for Peace Award will be presented. This award is given to someone who benefits the BG community and exemplifies the teachings and values of King – courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service.

This year’s recipient is The Brown Bag Food Project, a local organization committed to ending food insecurity and making sure that no one goes hungry.

The tribute will feature keynote speaker Dr. Shannon Orr, BGSU professor and director of the Falcon Food and Resource Community/Falcon Food Pantry. Orr teaches and researches public policy, and capacity building for non-profit organizations. Her current research is focused specifically on food insecurity and food pantry operations.

Light refreshments will be served at the event.
