Virginia “Ginny” Barnes, 81, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Bowling Green Care Center.
Virginia was born on November 26, 1935, near Mexico, Missouri, to the late Glen and Freda (Cawthorn) Barnes.
She began her teaching career at the age of 18 in a one-room school house with 27 pupils. She earned a BS and Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Missouri in Columbia. After receiving her degree, she moved to St. Louis and taught in the Pattonville School District. When she retired in 1990, she moved to Bowling Green, Ohio and taught education classes part-time for 11 years at Bowling Green State University.
Virginia enjoyed traveling, photography, working on flowers and spending time with her family. She had traveled to all 50 states, plus the seven continents including Antarctica.
She is survived by her sister: Glenna (Don) Ralston, of Bowling Green; niece: Ellen (Jeff) Saffran, of Port Clinton; nephews: Glen Ralston, of Columbus and Bruce (Rebecca Mansfield) Ralston, of San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation for Virginia will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1460 W. Wooster Street/P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio, 43402. Tele: 419-352-2171. Funeral Services for Virginia will be held privately for her family. Interment will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 9:30 AM in the Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico, Missouri.
