Ground was broken recently for an assisted living development at the former site of the Woodville Mall in Northwood.
U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur; Timothy Schneider, regional director, northwest Ohio Office of U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno; Ashley Aston, northwest regional representative, Office of U.S. Senator Jon Husted; Edward L. Schimmel, mayor, City of Northwood; and Kevin Laughlin, city administrator, City of Northwood joined Wallick CEO Amy Albery and Vice President of Development Mike DiCarlantonio and other partners to break ground on the $30 million The Ashford at The Enclave affordable assisted living development.
The Ashford at The Enclave will be located on the site of the former Woodville Mall in Northwood. With this project, Wallick becomes one of the first developers in Ohio to break ground on an affordable assisted living community, combining housing, assisted living services, and affordability. The Ashford at The Enclave pairs Medicaid reimbursement with 4% federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) allocated by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, making quality assisted living accessible for more seniors.
Other state partners include the Ohio Department of Medicaid and the Ohio Department of Aging. The City of Northwood’s donation of the land was critical to assembling the needed components to move the project forward.
“By 2030, Ohio will have more than 2.3 million residents who are age 65 or older – that’s more than 20% of the state’s population. Wallick is committed to providing people of all incomes the care they need as they age,” said Albery. “The Ashford at The Enclave will offer residents comprehensive care and support services in this new community.”

The Ashford at The Enclave will feature 110 units, with 77 units fully accessible and the remainder adaptable, offering residents comprehensive care and support services. The three-story, 75,000-square-foot building will feature a fully equipped commercial kitchen with a formal dining area and a more casual bar- or lounge-style space, as well as a salon and multipurpose rooms for classes, programs, and activities. Additionally, each floor will feature housekeeping and laundry facilities for residents, a central courtyard, and community gathering spaces throughout.
When fully occupied, The Ashford at The Enclave will create approximately 40 new, full-time jobs in Northwood. Roles will include nurses, personal care assistants, maintenance techs, housekeepers, cooks, and marketing and administrative staff.
Other project partners include Affordable Housing Partners Inc., D.A. Davidson & Co., and Gardant Management Solutions will manage the community.
The design team includes: MA Design, CDG Engineering, ECS Surveying, and S&ME Inc. Construction is anticipated to take 20 months, weather permitting.
