Weston man dies in single-vehicle crash Thursday in rural southwest Wood County

A Weston man was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash in southwest Wood County.

At 9:39 a.m., the Wood County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on Ohio 235 near Hammansburg Road in Jackson Township.

The crash involved a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche with a single male operator. The investigation showed that the Chevrolet was traveling northbound on Route 235 south of Hammansburg Road when it crossed the center line. The vehicle then entered a field where it continued traveling northbound until it struck a creek embankment head on.

The operator of the Chevrolet Avalanche, identified as William B. Springer, from Weston, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

Assisting the Wood County Sheriff’s Office on location was PMP (McComb), Hoytville Fire Department, ODOT and Howard’s Towing.

At this time alcohol is not suspected and the crash remains under investigation.
