BG Rotary Club to host Dean of University Libraries Sara Bushong, Thursday, May 14
Often called the “academic heart of campus,” BGSU’s Dean of University Libraries Sara Bushong will be the keynote speaker at the Rotary meeting on Thursday, May 14, to update the club about the Jerome Library.
Bushong’s remarks will include insights about recent renovations to the library, including the large abstract murals on the east and west sides of the building, created by Donald Drumm, acclaimed sculptor, designer, and craftsman.
The Jerome Library opened in 1967. Today, it houses over seven million volumes and resources that are accessible to the more than 450,000 students, faculty, and community members that visit the library every year.

Art Walk to feature local artists in downtown businesses, Saturday, May 9
The Bowling Green Arts Council has announced Art Walk 2026, in which 16 locations throughout historic downtown Bowling Green will host artists’ displays on Saturday, May 9, from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Art Walk will feature an exhibition of one piece by each of the artists at the Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main St., in addition to the displays at businesses. This provides visitors a chance to start out with a preview and vote for their favorite artwork.
Brochures with all artist locations will be available so walkers can locate the artists they want to visit.
Jurors’ and People’s Choice awards will be announced at the Art Walk After-Party, from 5 – 6 p.m. at Myla Marcus Winery, 133 S. Main St. There will be refreshments sponsored by Kabob It and Pisanello’s, wine tastes, and music by Sandy Coursey.

BG Area Community Bands to host free concert, ‘Visions of America,’ Sunday, May 10
The Bowling Green Area Community Bands invites the community to its free concert on Sunday, May 10, “Visions of America: Connection Points,” in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
The concert will be held at 4 p.m. at the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center located at 540 W. Poe Road. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. The event and parking are free and open to the public. Due to construction, attendees are asked to enter from Poe Road and follow directions to the parking lot on the northwest side of campus.

Wood County District Public Library to offer tree talk with urban forester, Monday, May 11
The city of Bowling Green has been an Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA award winner for 45 years. On Monday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m., the Wood County District Public Library will present Adrien Lowien-Kirian, Bowling Green’s urban forester, for a talk about working with people’s own trees. Lowien-Kirian will cover the best practices for planting new trees, caring for the trees already planted, and monitoring trees for pests and disease.
For those interested in learning more about the BG Tree Canopy Project, Lowien-Kirian will discuss some of that program and how people can support it as well.

Wood County Park District will host “Chair Yoga in the Parks” on Monday, May 11, and Monday, May 18, from 5 – 5:45 p.m., at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve in the Hankison Great Room, 29530 White Road, Perrysburg.
Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga practiced using a chair on top of a mat. It is designed to make yoga accessible to individuals with limited mobility or those who have difficulty standing for extended periods.

Exchange Club to host Dawn Anderson and Deanne Corken to discuss ‘Farm-to-Market’ project, Tuesday, May 12
The Exchange Club will discuss the “Farm-to-Market” project at its next meeting on Tuesday, May 12.
Sisters Dawn Anderson and Deanne Corken has an idea to conduct a program showing children the connection between farms and food production, while increasing their awareness of farming as an agricultural business. The result was a Farm-to-Market project that was a success at the Wood County Fair in 2025.
At the meeting, Anderson and Corken will discuss the results of the program, which was one of the fair’s highlights, attracting far more people than expected. It was “a pleasant surprise,” said Anderson, adding a number of additions to the Farm-to-Market event for the 2026 fair Aug. 2 – 9.
Corken has served for 13 years as a Wood County Fair Board director and has provided leadership for many departments and events.
Anderson is an Associate Dean Emeritus of the College of Health and Human Services at Bowling Green State University. She taught food science courses for 35 years and was the state food safety specialist for the Illinois Extension Service.
The Exchange club meets at noon at Beckett’s Burger Bar in downtown Bowling Green. Guests are always welcome to join club members for lunch. The cost for lunch is $13 per person.

Wood County Park District will host a book club reading of “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” by Zora Neale on Tuesday, May 12, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., at Carter Historic Farm in the Loomis Community Room, 18331 Carter Road, Bowling Green.
“Their Eyes Were Watching God” is a Harlem Renaissance classic. Written in just seven weeks and listed as one of “Time” magazine’s 100 best English-language novels published since 1923, this is Neale’s best known and possibly most loved work.

Wood County District Public Library’s bookmobile to stop at BGSU, Tuesday, May 12
A new bookmobile stop has been added in Bowling Green, thanks to a partnership between BGSU’s Jerome Library and the Wood County District Public Library. The second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m., the WCDPL bookmobile will roll into Parking Lot N, next to Jerome Library, bringing popular reading materials for the entire campus community.
The bookmobile will offer popular best-sellers in fiction and nonfiction, a selection of youth materials, and staff can fill requests at the next visit. This new bookmobile stop will serve students on campus, or staff and faculty who might want to visit before leaving campus for the day. Patrons who visit the bookmobile can also use the library located at 251 N. Main St. in Bowling Green.
The next visit to Parking Lot N on BGSU’s campus will be Tuesday, May 12, at 4 p.m.
BG Kiwanis Club to host Laura V. Weaver for program on gifted education, Thursday, May 14
The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club invites community members to attend its next regular meeting on Thursday, May 14, featuring a presentation titled “Taking the Train to Giftedland!” by Laura V. Weaver, gifted services and intervention specialist for Bowling Green City Schools.
The meeting will take place at noon in the Slater Family Ice Arena Lounge on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
During the presentation, Weaver will discuss gifted education programming and services within Bowling Green City Schools, providing insight into how students with advanced learning needs are identified, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Final Friday morning bird hike at Wintergarden to take place Friday, May 15
Bowling Green Parks and Recreation has announced the return of the Friday morning birding program this spring. The community is invited to join the volunteer naturalists of Bowling Green Parks & Recreation every Friday from April 10 to May 15 at 8 a.m. for a casual birding hike at Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve.
Adult bird watchers of all ability levels are welcome, and binoculars and field guides will be available for those who need them. Each hike will last up to an hour and a half, and no pre-registration is required. People may come to one hike or all of them as schedules allow.
Participants are asked to wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes for walking on the trails. Regardless of weather, watchers will still flock together.

Waterville Historical Society to present program on local architectural legacy, Wednesday, May 20
The community is invited to explore the places that have created Waterville’s iconic “look,” while traveling back in time to witness the development of Waterville’s significant architectural legacy. Attendees can hear the stories of the people who decided to leave their mark on Waterville in the days gone bye.
Speaker Julia Wiley will present “In the Eye of the Beholder: Waterville’s Architectural Legacy” on Wednesday, May 20, at 7 p.m., at Wakeman Hall, 401 Farnsworth Road, Waterville.
The program will also include a short tutorial on the National Register process and its advantages and disadvantages for property owners and the community.

Wood County Human Society Garage Sale returns May 21 & 22
The 32nd annual Wood County Humane Society Benefit Garage Sale will open its doors on Thursday, May 21, at 9 a.m. and will run through Friday, May 22, in the Grandstand Building at the Wood County Fairgrounds in Bowling Green.
The sale will be held at the same location on May 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and will feature a variety of merchandise including household items, collectibles, books, crafts, hardware, lawn, garden, furniture, and toys, encompassing over 13,000 square feet. Additionally, the sale will feature five for $1 clothing and a $3 “fill-a-bag” sale beginning on May 22 at 3 p.m.
For the first time, the sale is also featuring a special preview night sale on Wednesday, May 20, from 5 – 8 p.m. A $10 per person donation will be accepted at the door for the preview night sale – ages 12 and under enter for free. All other sale dates are free admission.
The funds raised provided for the care of animals housed in Minnebelle Conley Shelter, a no-kill humane shelter owned and operated by the Wood County Humane Society on Van Camp Road in Bowling Green.

Fort Meigs Historic Site to host largest War of 1812 reenactment in North America, May 23 & 24
Fort Meigs Historic Site will host the War of 1812 Grand Tactical during its signature First Siege 1813 event on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24.
The Grand Tactical is the largest War of 1812 reenactment in North America, drawing hundreds of reenactors for an immersive historical experience. Each year, the Grand Tactical rotates between sites in the United States and Canada.
Visitors can experience the sights, sounds, and intensity of early 19th-century warfare as British, American, and Native American forces clash in battlefield demonstrations. The weekend will feature tactical reenactments, artillery demonstrations, musket fire, and coordinated troop movements that help bring the War of 1812 to life.
Beyond the battlefield, guests can explore military camps, interact with reenactors, and learn about the daily lives of soldiers and civilians during the conflict. Guided tours, historic demonstrations, fashion shows, and hands-on activities will offer opportunities for visitors of all ages to engage with history in meaningful ways.
The Grand Tactical will run both Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, from 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission rates are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors 60+, $10 for students, $3 for Ohio History Connection members, and children ages 5 and under are free.

Final Bowling Green flea market of season set for May 23 & 24
The Bowling Green flea market is a one-weekend-per-month event, September through May. The event has been part of the Bowling Green community for approximately 54 years.
Taking place at Wood County fairgrounds, there are two buildings, Junior Fair and Champions buildings, with vendors and also outside vendors, weather permitting. Parking and admission are always free.
Vendors sell jewelry, crystals, antiques, coins, toys, comics, birdhouses, crafts, ephemera, rock and mineral specimens, fossils, video games, Pokémon, military items, sports items, Tupperware, and more.
The final event of the 2025-26 season will take place on May 23 and 24. Hours are Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The season will be closed for June, July, and August.
Wood County District Public Library to host ‘house history hunt’ throughout May
People that would like to learn more about their house or another property in the area are invited to the Wood County District Public Library. During the month of May, the library’s “house history hunt” will walk people through the process of researching properties.
The library will have worksheets available that guide participants through some of the basic steps in the process.
“A property’s history can be a bit of a mystery, but I also think that’s where the fun lies,” said Local Historian Librarian Marnie Pratt. “We hope this event will make people feel like a property detective.”
Property searches usually involve using the Wood County Auditor’s website, visiting the Recorder’s Office at the courthouse, and visiting the library’s local history collection.
Participation worksheets can be picked up at the second floor information desk from May 1 – 31. No registration is required and the worksheets are to keep as people explore properties at their own pace.

Just Baby ‘N Me is a lap-sit storytime ideal for babies. This unique storytime will be on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.in The Children’s Place at the Bowling Green Library.
This lap-sit storytime is great for babies from birth through early walkers (12 months). The focus during storytime is on rhymes, songs, finger plays, and exploring short books together, and is meant to facilitate interaction between you and your baby to develop their language and early literacy skills.
