William H Violet

William “Bill” Violet, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the age of 82. Born and raised on a farm in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, Bill developed a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to community that defined his life. He was a 1964 graduate of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where he earned honors and left a lasting impact on both academics and athletics.

A standout athlete, Bill was co-captain of the 1963 BGSU football team, playing both guard and linebacker. His leadership on the field earned him respect from teammates and coaches alike. Bill’s connection to BGSU continued throughout his life. He was an active member of the Varsity Club, serving as President and playing a key role in its growth. Under his leadership, the club provided invaluable financial support and resources to Falcon athletics, including the annual Doyt Perry Golf Outing, a fundraiser he greatly enjoyed planning and participating in. Bill’s dedication to the football program was unmatched, and his influence was felt by coaches and athletic directors who valued his guidance and insight. He was also proud to share his BGSU legacy with his brother, Jim, who also played for the Falcons. In 1986, Bill was honored with the BGSU Golden Letterman Award, presented by Kenneth Weber, a family relative and fellow recipient. Bill’s achievements were further recognized in 2014 when he was inducted into the Mechanicsburg Athletic Hall of Fame.

A lifelong member of the Inverness Club, Bill was an avid golfer who enjoyed participating in major tournaments and cherished the friendships he formed there over the years. He served on various committees, contributing to the club’s vibrant community. From 2001 to 2006, Bill served on the Board of Directors as Golf Chairman, where he made significant contributions to the club’s success. He played a key role in bringing the 2003 U.S. Senior Men’s Open to Inverness and was instrumental in securing the bid to host the 2009 NCAA Championship. Bill also helped establish the Inverness Caddy Scholarship Program, benefiting young people pursuing education through golf. A former golf professional at the club remarked that Bill was a well-respected golf chairman who conducted his work with the utmost integrity, always “doing everything by the book.”

Professionally, Bill had a successful career as a life insurance agent with Fidelity Union Life, now Allianz, where he earned numerous awards for his dedication and expertise. His career was a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence and his ability to build lasting relationships with his clients.

Bill’s true passion, however, was his family. He was a proud and supportive father and grandfather, always eager to watch his grandchildren compete in athletics. He cherished these moments and found joy in seeing the next generation follow in his footsteps.

Along with his wife of 47 years, Pati, Bill is survived by his children Lori Violet of Perrysburg, Ohio, Jennifer (Tom) Torchia of Canton, Michigan, Angela (John) Hohl of Waterville, Ohio and Ann Marie (Patrick) Barth of Brecksville, Ohio, grandchildren David (Ashley) Torchia, Ben (Marisa) Torchia, Emily (Jon) Francis, Sarah Torchia, Jessica Hohl, Andrew Hohl, Nicholas Barth (Makala Kirk), Abby Barth and Thomas Barth and great-grandchildren Shay Torchia and Brooks Torchia.
