The Wood County Emergency Management Agency has issued the following advisory:
Wood County is currently under an Enhanced Risk (3 out of 5) for severe weather today (4-2-25).
Hazardous weather is stretching from Michigan down to Texas. The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a rare High Risk (5 out of 5) for the area along the Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee border.
Current Weather Updates:
- Morning: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through noon. These storms should remain below severe limits but could bring wind gusts of up to 45 mph and small hail.
- Afternoon: Occasional showers are likely.
- Evening/Night (9pm – 1am): A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move through Wood County, potentially bringing wind gusts over 55 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
- Late Night/Early morning (1am – 5am): Heavy rainfall is expected, with 1-2 inches of rain possible.
Current estimates:
- Large Hail: 15-29% (Isolated cells could produce golf ball-sized hail)
- Damaging Winds: 30-44% (60-74 mph, with swaths of 75+ mph possible)
- Tornadoes:
- SE and Southern Wood County: 10-14% ( >10% chance of EFS 2-5, this is uncommon)
- Remainder of Wood County: 5-9%
Recommendations:
- Keep cell phones charged, with notifications audible overnight and ensure flashlights are accessible with fresh batteries.
- If possible, adjust travel plans to avoid being on the roads during times forecasted for these severe weather events.
