Wood County is now up to 12,843 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 216 deaths from the virus since last March, according to the Thursday, April 22, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 41 new cases since the last report on Monday, April 19.
A total of 626 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since last March, with three more being hospitalized since Monday.
As of today, a total of 57,790 local residents have gotten at least their first dose of a COVID vaccine. That is 44.18% of the county population. Wood County’s vaccination rate is the third highest in the state, behind Delaware and Ottawa counties.
Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 10 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area has the most active cases with 76. The Bowling Green ZIP code area has the next highest number this week, having 49 active cases. Northwood is next with 23, followed by North Baltimore with 15 cases, Walbridge with 9, Rossford with 8, Pemberville with 8, BGSU with 8, Bradner with 7, and Cygnet with 5.
The latest numbers reported for schools in the county included 24 students and no staff:
- Bowling Green City Schools: 5 students, 0 staff.
- Eastwood: 3 students, 0 staff.
- Lake: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Northwood, 1 student, 0 staff.
- Perrysburg: 8 students, 0 staff.
- Rossford: 6 students, 0 staff.
The only new case of COVID in long-term care facilities in Wood County was one resident of Bowling Green Manor.
