Wood County saw COVID numbers climb by 168 new cases in the past day. The county is now up to 5,340 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Tuesday, Dec. 1, update from the Wood County Health Department.
Two more deaths from COVID were also recorded, bringing the total deaths to 110 county residents.
The number of active COVID cases in the county is now 399, which is 24 fewer than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 333 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with eight more being hospitalized since Monday.
The county has recorded a total of 110 deaths from COVID. Of those, two were in their 40s, three were in their 50s, 12 were in their 60s, 26 in their 70s, 46 in their 80s, and 21 in their 90s.
Of the total 5,340 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 102, with the median age of 37. Of those testing positive, 2,758 were female, and 2,582 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 26 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area had the most last week, with 191-195 active cases. Next was Bowling Green, with 136-140 active cases.
Northwood had 31-35 active cases, North Baltimore had 26-30 cases, and Rossford had 16-20 cases.
Pemberville, Walbridge and Weston areas each had 11-15 cases. The Fostoria, Luckey and Risingsun areas had 6-10 cases each.
Areas with 1 to 5 cases each included Bloomdale, Bradner, Custar, Cygnet, Genoa, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Jerry City, Millbury, Milton Center, Portage, Rudolph, Tontogany, West Millgrove and Wayne.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Nov. 16) in the county included 37 students and 16 staff: Bowling Green, 5 students, 1 staff; Eastwood, 0 students, 1 staff; Elmwood, 3 students, 1 staff; Lake, 2 student, 1 staff; Northwood, 3 students, 0 staff; Penta Career Center, 6 students, 3 staff; Perrysburg, 14 students, 4 staff; Rossford, 4 students, 5 staff; and St. Rose, 1 student, 0 staff.
Of the total 5,340 cases in Wood County, at least 492 have been in long-term care facilities – 279 were residents and 213 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.

- Otterbein Pemberville: 21 residents, 21 staff.
- Heritage Corner Health Care, Bowling Green: 14 residents, 10 staff.
- St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg: 2 residents, 5 staff.
- Grand Rapids Care Center: 1 resident, 5 staff.
- Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore: 46 residents, 22 staff.
- Brookdale, Bowling Green: 0 residents, 2 staff.
- Wood Lane Residential Werner House: 1 resident, 1 staff.
- Wood Haven Health Care: 0 residents, 3 staff.
- Waterford at Levis Commons: 1 resident, 4 staff.
- Bowling Green Manor: 13 residents, 17 staff.
- Waterford at Levis Commons: 0 residents, 5 staff.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 75 of Wood County’s 110 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
