The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program is open and providing curbside service to Wood County participants at the Bowling Green office, 639 S. Dunbridge Road.
“We’re still open and will remain open,” said WIC Director Jackie Mears.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the office is waiving the requirements for children being with their parents when they pick up WIC cards.
“We do not have to have the infants or children physically present, only a parent with a form of ID and we are able to utilize a statement of ‘no income’ to be eligible,” Mears said. “No one has to come into the office physically. We are able to get information by phone and then load the WIC nutrition card with supplemental foods for three months and then staff will bring the card to your car.”
The WIC office is also expanding services to cover those furloughed due to the coronavirus response.
The program is serving the existing participants and any child up to 5 years of age and mothers who are pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding an infant who have been affected with a loss of work during the COVID-19 response.
“Wood County WIC staff is committed to helping provide food for families and will remain open throughout the COVID-19 response as we are an essential service of the Wood County Health Department,” Mears said.
