Just in time for the beginning of Lent, 3B Productions will stage “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Maumee Indoor Theater, 601 Conant St. Maumee.
The musical with score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice started as a rock opera concept album before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is sung-through, with no spoken dialogue. The story is loosely based on the Gospels’ accounts of the last week of Jesus’s life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. It speculates on political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus that are not in the Bible narratives.
Tickets are $17 for seating in first five rows, $15 and $13 for students and seniors. Visit 3bproductions.org.
