The City of Bowling Green’s next slow roll bike ride, titled Art Ride, will be held Saturday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. In anticipation of the Black Swamp Arts Festival, we’ll be riding to and through some of Bowling Green’s most unique art installations.
We’ll also meet the team who just completed BG’s newest mural. The mural, which was painted on the future home of Arlyn’s Good Beer Brewery, was designed by Gordon Ricketts of the School of Art Bowling Green State University.
Fourteen BGSU undergraduate art students and five graduate students painted the mural. Gordon Ricketts was assisted by Yusuf Lateef, a Toledo based artist. Chad Havek, a spray paint artist, brought the roosters to life.
This ride will meet and end at the Wooster Green.
Additional rides planned for this year include a Glow Roll night ride taking place on Friday, Sept. 20, in partnership with the Wood County Park District and the Halloween Ride, Spooks & Spokes, planned for October.
Rides are free, family-friendly, and open to everyone. Each rider is required to wear a properly-fitted helmet and ride a correctly-sized bicycle in safe, working mechanical order. It is highly recommended that young riders, who are still learning to ride, participate via a tow behind trailer or child bike seat.
These rides are meant to be more recreational in nature and will travel at a speed comfortable for all riders. While designed for fun and exploration, monthly rides will also stress the importance of safe riding practices and responsibilities of riders while navigating city streets.
Multiple trained leaders will facilitate the ride to ensure that all riders complete the route, including providing assistance for mechanical or personal issues that may arise.
