Several streets are designated “snow streets” throughout Bowling Green, and during a snow emergency, parking restrictions along these streets are implemented.
Snow streets are marked with blue and white signs. A snow emergency within the city may be declared if 2 inches of snow accumulates. If a snow emergency is declared between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., vehicles parked on a snow street must be removed within two hours of the declaration. If a snow emergency is declared overnight, vehicles must be removed by 9 a.m.
Vehicles parked in violation of snow regulations are subject to being towed at the owner’s expense and a citation may be issued. Even if you don’t live on a snow street, it is very helpful to remove vehicles from the street whenever possible. Doing so will expedite the removal of snow along the roads. Designated streets and other winter regulations are posted on the city’s website.
Property owners in Bowling Green are required to clear their sidewalks of ice and snow within 24 hours after snowfall stops. Failure to clear walks may result in the issuance of a citation or in the city ordering the sidewalks to be cleared by a contractor with all costs billed to the property owner. Details on requirements and procedures for the clearing of sidewalks are outlined in Section 98.06 of the City’s Codified Ordinances or the city’s website.
Citizens and snow plow contractors should not shovel, plow, or blow snow onto the city streets when clearing snow from sidewalks and driveways. This can create an unsafe condition on the street and cause delays in the process of street clearing.
