Heather Fallis, a library media specialist at the Bowling Green Middle School, is the third honoree during the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club’ inspirational educator month. She will be the guest speaker at the club’s Thursday noon luncheon at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Fallis is a native of Euclid, and a graduate of Euclid High School. She went on to earn undergraduate degrees in communication disorders and elementary education from Bowling Green State University in 2001 and a master’s degree in school library sciences from Mansfield University.
She started with Bowling Green schools as a method student while an undergraduate at BGSU and at the end of the year she was hired for an open position as a fifth grade student at Conneaut Elementary School. She taught at Conneaut for 15 years before moving to the middle school where she taught sixth grade for a year before she getting what she calls “my dream job” as a librarian three years ago.
In her presentation to the Kiwanis Club on Thursday, Fallis plans to talk about the different role of libraries versus the libraries of the past. “We have much more than books in our BG Middle School library,” Fallis says. “My goal at BGMS is to create a library that not only fosters a love of reading and access to a large number of books but also serves as the heart of the school.”
