Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat for Humanity of Wood County, Lowe’s and approximately 6,000 women volunteers will unite in more than 235 communities in the U.S., India and Canada for International Women Build Week on March 1-8, to highlight the global need for decent and affordable housing.
A prelude to International Women’s Day, the global event aims to build and repair nearly 540 homes while raising awareness of housing issues facing women and their families.
On Friday, March 6, Habitat for Humanity of Wood County will participate in Women Build week by rehabbing a home located at 1923 Joseph St. in Northwood.
To start the day, a Project Blessing Ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony. A project blessing will be given by Pastor David McGregor of Athens Missionary Baptist Church. Lowe’s heroes and local dignitaries will be in attendance.
Immediately following the ceremony and throughout the day, designated volunteers and dignitaries will be working on the interior of the Joseph Street home to show their support of the project and of International Women Build Week.
Future homeowner Chelsea Hart who will be working alongside construction volunteers stated “I have been praying for an opportunity like this for a while … this is such an incredible blessing and a big relief to be able to have a home that I can call my own.”
Women Build educates, inspires and empowers women to advocate for decent housing. As part of the IWBW grant, Habitat will be receiving funds from Lowe’s to use to off-set the cost of this rehab project.

Habitat for Humanity of Wood County partners with people in Wood County and all over the world to help them build or improve a place they can call home.
