Not In Our Town BG is hosting a virtual community conversation on race and equity. The format of the event is designed to foster understanding and will provide a panel of community members who will listen, answer questions, and lead discussion.
Audience members can submit their comments and questions via the chat feature, and the event will be facilitated by a moderator. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
The community conversation will take place virtually during the regularly scheduled monthly general meeting of Not In Our Town BG, on Thursday, June 4, at 3 p.m.

The gathering is open to community and campus public participation and input. Those present will review events of the past month, hear reports of current activities, and consider issues to address and opportunities to build a more safe, respectful and inclusive community.
On Monday evening, Not In Our Town released the following statement:
“As we try to make sense of the senseless, Not in Our Town Bowling Green joins our worldwide communities in mourning the deaths of George Floyd, Brionna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and others whose names we do not know. We stand with the loved ones who mourn and with the larger communities of color who must live with the prejudice which still infects our society.
“We join in spirit with those protesting the violence, demanding justice for the killings. We acknowledge and appreciate the work that the Bowling Green and BGSU Police Departments have done to build community and understanding, and in partnership with them and all of the Bowling Green community, we are determined to continue to help to stop hate and “build safe, inclusive environments for all.”
“We know that silence is not the answer, nor is inaction in the face of hate and racism, thus we are working on holding a virtual town hall as we believe having a safe space to listen and have meaningful discussions are critical for our community.”
NIOT BG is a community-wide movement, with monthly meetings alternating between the BGSU campus and a downtown BG location. Questions and comments can be sent to the co-chairs, Dawn Shinew (dshinew@bgsu.edu) and Emily Dunipace (edunipace@woodcountydd.org)
