Bowling Green Police Division arrested two men early this morning – one for obstructing official business and the other for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
An officer made a traffic stop at 12:11 a.m., after seeing a vehicle driving without headlights on Clough Street, near South Mercer Road. The vehicle had no visible license plate.
The driver told police he had recently got the vehicle, and that he didn’t have his driver’s license with him, and didn’t have insurance. The driver reportedly gave police a fake name.
Police used the plate in the back window of the vehicle to identify the driver was Jordan Dominique Gary, 23, of Bowling Green, who had misdemeanor warrants out of Cleveland. Gary has no current driver’s license.
Gary was placed in the cruiser, and police then spoke with his passenger, Marqui Trevon McClee, 22, of Cleveland. They advised McClee that the vehicle was going to be towed, so police asked if there were any items in the vehicle that they should be aware of.
McClee said there was a gun and magazine under the back seat. Police located the magazine, but not the gun, so they asked McClee if they could check his backpack. Inside they found an unloaded 9mm.
An officer reported seeing McClee get that backpack and put it on his lap while the arresting officer was away from the vehicle. McClee reportedly unzipped the pocket and put his hand in the backpack, then zipped it up and placed the backpack back on the seat.
Police asked McClee why he grabbed a backpack that had a gun in it while he was in a vehicle currently stopped by police. He stated he was just checking to see if the gun was in the bag. McClee told police he did not have a concealed carry permit, and that the gun was for protection.
Both men were taken to the Wood County jail. Gary was charged with obstructing official business and driving without a license, and McClee was charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
