Wood County has now passed 2,000 COVID cases since March

Wood County has had 2,002 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Thursday, Oct. 1, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 19 more cases since Wednesday.

The total COVID deaths in the county since March is 82.

As of today there are 155 active cases in the county, which is 15 fewer than on Wednesday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

Of the total 2,002 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 102, with the median age of 32. Of those testing positive, 1,057 were female, and 945 were male. 

A total of 164 Wood County residents have been hospitalized for the virus since March.

Of the 82 who have died, three were in their 50s, nine were in their 60s, 21 in their 70s, 34 in their 80s, and 15 in their 90s. Of the deaths, 46 have been females, and 36 have been males.

Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there were 13 areas in the county with active cases.

The Bowling Green ZIP codes areas had 121-125 active cases this week.

The Perrysburg area had between 16 and 20 cases, and the Rossford area. Areas with 1 to 5 cases each included Bradner, Cygnet, Deshler, Fostoria, Millbury, North Baltimore, Northwood, Portage, Walbridge and Weston.

Of the total 2,002 cases in Wood County, at least 350 have been in long-term care facilities – 211 were residents and 139 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday. 

The following facilities have had cases, as of Sept. 30:

  • SKLD Perrysburg: 50 residents, 9 staff.
  • Kingston Residence of Perrysburg: 44 residents, 19 staff.
  • Kingston Rehabilitation of Perrysburg: 11 residents, 31 staff.
  • The Manor at Perrysburg: 18 residents, 7 staff.
  • Heartland of Perrysburg: 28 residents, 15 staff.
  • Otterbein Perrysburg: 6 residents, 18 staff.
  • Otterbein Pemberville: 3 residents, 8 staff.
  • Heritage Corner Health Care, Bowling Green: 3 residents, 4 staff.
  • St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg: 1 resident, 5 staff.
  • Grand Rapids Care Center: 1 resident, 0 staff.
  • Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore: 45 residents, 19 staff.
  • Brookdale, Bowling Green: 0 residents, 1 staff.
  • Wood Lane Residential Werner House: 1 resident, 1 staff.
  • Wood Haven Health Care: 0 residents, 2 staff.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 52 of Wood County’s 82 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.

As of cases reported in K-12 schools during the week of Sept. 21, Otsego reported two staff tested positive, Penta Career Center reported two students, Perrysburg reported one student and one staff, and Wood Lane reported one staff member tested positive.
