BG man arrested after reportedly biting woman

Bowling Green Police arrested a man after he reportedly bit the mother of his child and put his 4-month-old baby at risk.

Christian Tompkins, 35, was charged with domestic violence and endangering a child, and taken to the Wood County jail.

Police received a call Friday around 7:40 a.m., about a domestic incident in an apartment in the 500 block of Clough Street. The woman had called her mother during the incident, and the mother reportedly heard her daughter say “You hurt the baby” before the phone cut off.

When an officer arrived on the scene, he saw Tompkins walking across the parking lot. The officer advised units in the area, and went to the apartment where he found the victim crying and holding her baby.

The victim had a distinct bite mark on her shoulder, according to the police report.

She told police that she had picked up Tompkins from work at a BG manufacturing plant, and he asked for money and to go to a gas station convenience store. Once he returned to the car, the victim said Tompkins began yelling at her, calling her names, and threatening to hit her.

The victim told police that once they were home, Tompkins continued yelling at her and calling her names for almost an hour until she called her mother.

The victim said she sat down on the couch and continued speaking with her mother while she began to breastfeed the baby. She said Tompkins approached her, stood over her calling her names, then leaned down and bit onto her right shoulder and laid on top of her and the baby, smashing them into the couch while he dug around under her leg for her phone.

The victim told police she was concerned about the baby being smashed, so she started punching at Tompkins until he got off of them.

According to the victim, Tompkins then opened the front door and yelled to the neighbors that she was a “lazy slob.” She told police that he is always calling her lazy for not cleaning enough and doing the dishes when he thinks they should be done as well as cleaning the bathroom because it’s woman’s work.

Meanwhile, another police officer on Grant Street saw Tompkins, who reportedly took off running. He was located in the 400 block of East Wooster Street with no incident.

The police gave the victim a Victim Rights Pamphlet as well as a Power in Information Pamphlet.
