Wayne man pleads not guilty to inducing panic on campus

A man charged with inducing panic on the Bowling Green State University campus Sunday was allegedly waving a handgun in the air.

Daniel Seymour, 39, of Wayne, was stopped by police on East Wooster Street near the intersection of I-75, after a report of a man carrying a firearm prompted a call to shelter in place on campus. The initial report came in at 1:36 p.m. Seymour was stopped at about 2 p.m. According to the campus police report, he “complied readily.”

Seymour was carrying a Ruger P95 9mm, with one round in the chamber and 15 rounds in the magazine. While he was prone on the ground, the police removed the hand gun, handcuffed and searched him, before placing in the back seat of the cruiser.

At that point, campus police told him he was just being detained, and was not under arrest. It was only after talking to the witness who said he was waving the weapon that he was arrested for inducing panic. According to police, he said he was he was “adjusting his sweatshirt to expose the firearm as being carried openly but did not wave it around.”

He was taken to the Wood County Jail, and later released. Seymour pleaded not guilty in Bowling Green Municipal Court this afternoon (April 19) with pretrial set for May 5 at 1:30 p.m
