A Bowling Green man wanted for beating a child turned himself in this morning at the Bowling Green Police Division.
Jeremy Mull, 35, was taken to Wood County jail.
Police had issued a warrant for Mull’s arrest for felonious assault on Aug. 9.
According to the police report, the assault occurred at a home in the 300 block of Buttonwood Avenue.
Prior to the warrant being issued, a woman came to the station and told police she was worried about her daughter and grandchildren. She said she had not seen them in a week, and the boyfriend had a history of domestic violence.
The daughter had given multiple excuses via text messages of why the woman could not see the grandchildren.
The woman went to the house on Aug. 6, and when her daughter didn’t come out, she said she was going to the police. She told police at the station she believed it was Mull, not her daughter responding to her text messages.
Soon after, the 8-year-old grandchild walked past the dispatch window at the police station. His face was completely swollen, and it did not appear that he could see out of his swollen eyes, according to the police report.
His mother, who also was there, said Mull beat him. The child said he didn’t remember when he was beat, but said it was probably Thursday or Tuesday. The other child was with his father, according to the mother.
The boy reportedly said this was the second time Mull had used his fists to beat him. He kept saying “I’ve been through a lot,” according to the report. The child said his mom and Mull were in the room when it happened.
Police told the boy that the paramedics were going to check him out and maybe he’d get to go for a ride in the ambulance. The child was adamant that he wasn’t going to the hospital.
The boy told the paramedics that he felt fine. However, he was unable to breathe through his nose that appeared to possibly be broken, and he showed them bumps on the back of his head.
The child was taken directly to Toledo Hospital because of the seriousness of his injuries.
Police searched the house on Buttonwood, and found several items of concern in a bedroom used by Mull, the child and his mother. There were several bloody rags and towels on and next to the mattress on the floor. There were pillows with blood on them and a trash can filled with vomit next to the bed. Blood was also observed on the wall and ceiling above the bed.
Police also found numerous items of drug paraphernalia including multiple capped and uncapped hypodermic needles, bent spoons consistent with heroin use, items consistent with the smoking of crack cocaine, as well as other items used for ingesting illegal drugs.
