Bowling Green Christian Academy will be closing early for Thanksgiving break due to the high number of COVID cases and quarantining students and staff.
A call to the school this morning was directed to the BGCA marketing and admission director Zane Powell. Multiple messages were left, with no response.
In an email shared by a BGCA parent, Principal Bo Kessler on Wednesday explained the need to close, stating:
“As of the end of school today we have 20% of our student body absent due to illness or quarantine, and 10% of our staff.
“Today the leadership of our school met to discuss these circumstances and prayerfully seek wisdom and guidance on how to best provide and protect the mission of the school, and care for the health and wellbeing of our students and staff. In the ever changing circumstances involving health and Covid-19, we want to be careful in the precedents we set, and be sure we are evaluating each unique situation, and making missional decisions to the best of our ability,” Kessler said in the email.
According to the email, BG Christian Academy has decided to take the following course of action:
- Thursday and Friday, in-person school were offered. With the current staff out due to illness or quarantine, the school is short staffed. In the event of additional illness in the facility, it is possible that some classrooms or programs would have to be canceled.
- Next week, the school will begin Thanksgiving break early for students only, starting on Monday and Tuesday.
Kessler’s email continued:
“We ask all families to take the onset of any Covid-19 related symptoms seriously and not send your students to school over these remaining days if they are showing signs of illness.”
“It is our hope and prayer that taking these steps will help to curb the spread of any illness in our school community and set as many of us up as possible to stay healthy, and be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with our loved ones.”
