Larry “Breeze” A. Downey, age 68, of Pemberville, OH passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, OH. He was born on June 24, 1955, in Toledo, OH to Paul Downey and Betty (Stamm) Wolf. He was a 1973 graduate of Eastwood High School. He later served his country in the United States Army, and on June 28, 1974, Larry married Beth A. Headley at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pemberville, OH. Larry and Beth raised 3 children and celebrated over 49 years of marriage together.
Larry, worked as the Office Manager at C & L Sanitation for 25 plus years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council, and the Pemberville American Legion Post #183. Larry truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. The straight lines in his lawn always brought a smile to his face and quiet evenings sitting in his throne in his garage were among his favorite. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially to Florida or anywhere near the water. Larry was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Larry’s greatest joy was his family and he especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s events.
In addition to his wife Beth, Larry is survived by his children: Chris (Lisa) Downey of Luckey, Jennifer (Harry) Steyn of Bowling Green and Courtney (Nolan) Eckel of Perrysburg. Grandchildren: Taylor Downey, Bryce Downey, Riley Eckel, and Reagan Eckel. Father, Paul Downey of Perrysburg and his mother, Betty Wolf also of Perrysburg. Brothers: David (Emma) Downey of San Diego, CA, and Bruce Downey of Haskins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Williams.
Family and friends will be received 3-7 p.m., on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 220 Cedar Street, Pemberville. There will be additional visitation from 10 a.m., until the time of service. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Philabaum. Interment with full military honors will be in Pemberville Union Cemetery, Pemberville, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to The Eastwood Educational Foundation, American Alzheimer’s Association or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
