The Garden Group of GFWC Women’s Club of Bowling Green gathered recently at the Wood County Museum to hear Karen Wood speak on the history of the herb garden and lead a tour of the garden’s culinary, medicinal, fragrant and everlasting sections.
Congregating in the refurbished former boiler room near the herb garden grounds, members listened as Linda Frizzell presented on the Lobelia plant, an annual in the Women’s Club’s planting zone, and Jo Vernon reported on Wood Wrens and how they listen for food.
Linda Hamilton reported on the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs convention held in August at Maumee Bay State park. She advised there were several breakout sessions including horticulture operations at the Toledo Zoo, gardening for wellness, and composting ideas from Hirzel Farms.
Members continue to provide daily watering and weeding service to the plantings at the Welcome Sign at the north end of the city. The group’s next meeting will be Oct. 15 at the Summerfield Community Building with a program on fall decorating.
