One person dead after two-vehicle crash on U.S. 6

One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash this afternoon on U.S. 6, west of Bowling Green.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office was called to the intersection of Route 6 and Range Line Road, in Weston Township, around 3:43 p.m., for the crash involving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2020 International semi-tractor pulling a tanker trailer.

According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation showed that the pickup truck was traveling southbound on Range Line Road and failed to stop at the stop sign. The pickup traveled onto Route 6, where it struck the trailer of the eastbound semi. 

The pickup truck became lodged under the semi-trailer and became engulfed in flames, according to the report.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the semi was not injured. 

Identification of the victim is being withheld pending further investigation and notification of relatives.

Route 6 was closed in both directions for vehicle recovery and crash investigation.

Assisting on location was Weston Fire & EMS, Bowling Green Fire Division, Central Joint Fire District, Milton Fire Department, Wood County Coroner’s Office, Wood County Park District Police, Wright’s Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The incident was still under investigation as of 9 p.m. Monday.
