Arthur Eugene “Skip” Aring, 93, of Bowling Green passed away on February 12, 2024. He was born to Clarence E. and Wilhelmina “Minnie” C. (Hagemeyer) Aring.
Skip graduated from Portage Township High School in 1948. He later married Anna Jane Klawitter in 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Rochester, Ohio.
Skip began his career as a Millwright at Hankey Lumber Co from 1948 to 1965. He also served his country in the Army from 1952 to 1954, 510th Tank Battalion, stationed in Manheim, Germany. After returning to civilian life, he operated Aring Home Remodeling for 30 years.
During the winter months he sought refuge from the cold Ohio winters in Florida. For ten winters, he indulged in the sunshine and laid-back lifestyle, creating wonderful memories along the way. He defied expectations by becoming the oldest male to play beach volleyball at Siesta Bay in Fort Myers, Florida, at the remarkable age of 82.
Skip had an exceptional talent in working with wood, creating a number of beautiful pieces during his retirement that showcased his creativity and craftmanship.
His memberships include: B.G. VFW#1148, Fremont; Moose Lodge #1286, Tontogany; American Legion #0441; and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Bowling Green.
Skip is survived by his daughters; Susan J. Aring-Hanna (Drew) of Bowling Green, Ohio; Lynda J. (Brian) Smith of Mary Esther, Florida; Tamyra J (Terry) Rizor of Leesburg, Virginia; two grandchildren, Adam (Kate) Rizor of Lovettsville, Virginia and Melissa (Van) Lewin of Boone, North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Lilian and Zachary Rizor.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Skip’s honor to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green.
Graveside service for Eugene will be held on March 9, 2024 at 10:30 am at Fish Cemetery in New Rochester, Ohio, with pastor Robin Small officiating. Military honors will be rendered at the cemetery by the Wood County Honor Guard. A luncheon and visitation at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will immediately follow the service.
