Alva L Bhaer

Alva L. Bhaer, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, 77 years of age, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away, Sunday, November 19, 2017 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio surrounded by his loving family.

Alva was born on March 6, 1940 in North Baltimore, Ohio to the late Alva C. and Sara L. (Dewyer) Bhaer.  He married the love of his life Rebecca (White) Bhaer on June 25, 1966 in the Mt. Orab United Methodist Church, Mt. Orab, Ohio and she survives him after 51 years of marriage in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Alva was a 1958 graduate of North Baltimore High School. After high school Alva served his country proudly in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Alva enrolled in the Hobart Welding school where he graduated and later received his certification in welding pressurized vessels.  Alva worked for numerous years as a welder for Henry Filters and later retired from Glasstech in Perrysburg, Ohio where he worked in the Research and Development Department.  He was a former member of the Village View of Christ in Bowling Green. Alva was a member of the Bowling Green Rifle Club for numerous years as well as a member of the Friends of the Wood County Public Library and the Wood County Committee on Aging.  He was also a Life Member of the Wood County Historical Museum and the Wood County Park District, but first and foremost, he was a devoted husband and his beloved wife’s #1 advocate supporting her during her political career which included eating at many chicken BBQ’s sometimes several a day!  Alva was a true family man, who enjoyed spending time with his wife, and children and supporting his grandchildren in all of their events.  He loved traveling, visiting with family and friends, reading and playing Euchre.  Alva will be truly missed by his loving family and friends.

Along with his wife Becky, Alva is survived by a daughter: Julie (Paul) Chambers, of Naperville, Illinois; a son: David Bhaer, of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren: Lauryn and Madelyn Chambers, of Naperville, Illinois; a sister: Joyce (Thomas) Boney, of Findlay, Ohio along with a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Alva will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 4:30PM until the time of his Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors and his loving nephews: Pastor Kenny White and Pastor Brian White officiating at 6:30PM in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY 1460 West Wooster Street/P.O.
