A Minnesota truck driver died Saturday night when the semi he was driving collided with construction equipment in a work zone on Ohio 420 in Troy Township.
At 8:08 p.m., the Wood County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash on Ohio 420 between Ohio 163 and Truman Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Volvo semi-tractor was operated by Michael Ivorsen, 56, of Jordan, Minnesota, had driven around road closed signs and into an inactive construction zone on southbound Ohio 420.
While proceeding south on the closed roadway in the left lane, the semi-tractor struck a Caterpillar excavator that was parked protecting a cut across the roadway. The semi-tractor then went off the left side of the road and into the median where it came to final rest.
Ivorsen did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Pemberville Fire and EMS, Troy Township Fire and EMS, and Or’s Towing. Representatives from Ohio Department of Transportation also responded to assess the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
